FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here we have provided some answers to common questions we get, if you have any questions not answered here or would like to know more please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Q: How long will my dogs appointment be?

When booking appointments, we always make sure to allow your dog(s) the time they need to ensure we can complete the groom in the most comfortable and safest way possible, and to the highest quality. This means that often timings will vary depending on coat type, condition, behaviour and desired style. Typically, grooms can last anywhere between 1 to 2 hours.

Q: Can I stay with my dog during the groom?

Owners are not permitted to stay through the duration of grooming. Typically, we find that dogs are more anxious in the presence of their owners and unfortunately our insurance does not cover the presence of owners in these situations. If you are concerned about your dog(s) behaviour/stress levels, we are happy to discuss options where your dog can be seen at a quieter point in the day and have free parking onsite which means that you are able to stay in the area if you wish.

Q: Where will be dog be kept whilst waiting to be groomed/collected?

Paws Perfect maintains a 'no crate' policy. This means that at no point during the grooming process will your dog be crated. We have a fully air-conditioned, secured salon where your dog can hang out with us or snuggle up on our orthopaedic vet bed whilst they wait for grooming or collection. We do, however, have tether points around the building for safe separation of dogs and to secure dogs when necessary.

Q: What breeds do you have experience with?

All our groomers are fully trained to complete grooms of all breeds and types to both pet and breed standard. We work with you to find a style that suits their and your lifestyle.

Q: I've got a new puppy, what would you reccomend?

New puppies need introducing to grooming as early as possible. Therefore, once they are fully vaccinated it’s important to book them in for their first puppy intro. From there we will be able to go through proper maintenance for your specific breed, including the correct brushes, shampoos, etc. and help your puppy get used to the grooming environment.

Q: I think my dog is matted, will they have to be shaved?

The first thing to do if you think your dog may be matted is to book in with us. We can then assess their coat to check the extent of the matting. In order to remove matting, we need to be able to get under the mats which means that we have to shave close to the skin. Unfortunately, the process of brushing out matting is incredibly painful to dogs and therefore under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 we are unable to brush out any matted areas. It is therefore often kinder to remove the coat at this point and let it regrow and start afresh! We can then discuss with you about home maintenance, recommend brushes/combs, discuss an appropriate style/length for your lifestyle/preferences and book in a schedule of grooming that enables you to have the look you desire!

Q: How often does my dog need to be groomed?

Duration between grooming appointments varies depending on breed, coat type, at home maintenance and desired style/length. Typically, if you prefer your dog(s) hair longer then we recommend less time between grooms to keep this in good condition, whereas a shorter cut requires less frequent appointments. Typically for all breeds we recommend not more than 8 weeks between appointments, and generally your dog will require grooming every 6-8 weeks.
