JOIN BELLA'S HAIR RECYCLING SCHEME
FOR JUST £1 EXTRA YOU CAN HELP US HELP THE PLANET
From August 2024 Paws Perfect will officially be collecting hair as part of the the Green Groomers Collective. Every year 1000s of bags of dog hair go to landfil and contribute to Co2 in the atmosphere. We would like to do our bit to ensure the health of our planet. Therefore we have decided to begin collecting hair and donating it to the Green Groomers Collective - an organisation the collects hair from Dog Groomers in order to turn it into useable products - including cleaning up oil spills in our oceans!

However, this does not come without its costs, each box donated costs us around £90. Therefore we are asking all our clients to donate just £1 on top of their regular grooms in order to have their dogs fur collected for this amazing cause!

We will ask you when you come to pay but please feel free to enquire about this scheme at your next groom!

WHAT IS THE HAIR USED FOR?
COMPOSTING/GARDENING
Fur is a protein and much like other proteins it will breakdown when composted. It is also rich in nitrogen which is excellent food for plants!
HAIR MATS
Fur can be felted into hair mats! Hair mats can be used in a similar way to hair booms and can be used on land, parks, gardens and even on your street or driveway. These can be used for oil or water.
POTTING FELT
Your dogs fur can be made into potting felt, a product for houseplants. This material saves water, deters pests and releases nitrogen into the soil.
WATERWAY CLEAN-UPS
Fur absorbs oil and your dogs hair could be used to create hair booms (tightly pack fur packed into cotton or nylon tubes). These hair booms are then placed in either water or on the shores of beaches, and they stop oil from spreading! This saves wildlife and the natural landscape!
CREATING INSULATION
Combining your dogs furs with mycelium, the root structure of fungi, enables them to create insultation panels.
ARCHITECTURE
Green Groomers Collective are also exploring ways to use hair waste in architecture and building materials.
WOOL ALTERNATIVES
Green Groomers Collective have created a workshop with design researchers that invite people to explore hair rope making, while inspiring people to rethink the concept of waste.
