Welcome to our Paws Post June edition. None of us here at Paws Perfect can believe we are already half way through the year already - it feels like only yesterday we were writing to you from our first edition of Paws Posts wishing you all a Merry Christmas! We have lots to update you on and including our charity dog wash event!
APPRENTICESHIP UPDATE:
Lara is now approaching the end of her apprenticeship with her final exam in August. She is progressing well and is now able to groom a wider range of breeds and styles independently. We wont be removing her 'L' plate just yet but will be replacing it with a 'P' in the coming months. After her final exam her diary will be open full time from then onwards - so get booking!
BEWARE: TICKS & FLEAS
Its unfortunately that season again, with all the warm weather comes a plethora of nasty bugs. Ticks in particular seem to be rife this year, we have removed over 20 in the last month! Its important to check your pets regularly for ticks and remove them or get them removed (we offer a free tick removal service to our regular grooming clients) as ticks can transmit diseases like Lyme's disease and other blood born pathogens.
Fleas also seem to be making an appearance once again. If you suspect your dog has fleas and you have an appointment booked with us please let us know in advance. We offer a defleaing treatment for an extra £10 on top of our regular prices. If you suspect your pets have fleas its best to consult your vet for the best method to remove them completely. Your vet will also be able to provide you with a good preventative to stop those bugs in their tracks!
GRASS SEEDS
Another issue to be on the watch for, as the grass gets long, is grass seeds! These long thin spikey seeds are often picked up in our dogs coat and particularly between the toes and paw pads. These can then work their way into the skin and even work their way up further into their body and cause all sorts of untold damage.
If your suspect your dog may have a grass seed under their skin (this may be shown in a red lump between your dogs toes or around the sight where the grass seed may have entered), please take them to the vet as soon as possible to have them checked. Grass seeds work quickly and can do a lot of damage if left untreated.
DON'T FORGET: OUR DOG WASHATON CHARITY EVENT
Don't forget to pop the 18th of August in your diary and come along for our charity Dog Wash-A-Thon! Get your dog professionally bathed for an incredibly discounted price with all proceeds going to Forest Dog Rescue! The rescue will also be attending to give a talk about what they do and how you can help, and at 2pm Chris May, a local dog trainer, will be giving a talk and demonstration where you can ask about any issues you might have.
We'd love your support so please pop along and don't forget your pooch!
