Welcome to our first Paws Post of 2024! We hope everyone had a lovely first few months of the year and if we haven't already we look forward to seeing you all soon! Its been a busy first few months for us so we have lots to update you on!
PUPDATE: Laras Apprenticeship
Lara has been working hard learning to become a Dog Groomer. Recently she completed her first assessment - a full groom on the lovely Jess!
Jess looks fantastic and its no surprise that Lara passed her first assessment with flying colours. We are very proud of her and look forward to seeing how she progresses further as she completes her subsequent assessments!
Her next assessment is booked so we hope you'll join us in crossing our fingers and paws for her. Although we have every confidence she will do brilliantly!
Our trip to Crufts 2024!
We recently took a trip to visit Crufts 2024 in Birmingham (purely educational - and not just to spoil our own doggies with endless shopping!).
We left for the event at 8am and arrived back at 10pm so we could make the most of everything there was to see (but still feel like we missed something!). We made sure we got to see the police dog demonstration, hero dog awards (what a well deserved bunch that was!), agility championships, terrier and hound judging (that little Jack Russell was an absolute favourite!) and of course - Best in Show! We had a fab and packed day!
P.S we also popped to visit the grooming stands to check out some new things products and equipment for the salon!
Tips for Keeping your Dog Healthy this Spring
As the weather (hopefully!) starts to warm up and the days start to get longer our dogs are most likely raring to go and enjoy all the sunshine and sniffs that are on offer. However, its important to be aware of potential issues that may occur in the spring months, from wildlife to parasites to allergies. There are lots of things to be aware of whilst letting your dogs enjoy their fun in the sun!
Plan fun, outdoor adventures - but be aware of your dogs limitations
We all know the best way to enjoy spring is to get out and about and of course you four-legged pal agrees! Just be aware to start slow if you dog isn't used to longer walks it important to build their muscles and exercise tolerance. If your dog is older or under a year its also important to be aware of any limitations they may have. Although our dogs are often very up for those long walks limitations such as arthritis and not fully developed joints can make it difficult on them.
Mind those parasites
Those pesky flea and ticks are ready and waiting as the weather warms up. Remember to regularly use your preventatives as directed by your veterinary professionals. If your pup does happen to get a tick we are happy to remove them for you at your next grooming appointment for no extra charge.
Look out for toxic plants
As the colour comes back to the countryside its important to be aware of the plants that whilst pretty could be a potential toxin to your pets. Popular spring plants such daffodils, tulips, lilies and amaryllis need to be grown and kept well out of reach of our four legged friends. It is also important to be mindful if you walk through crop fields often to look out for potentially toxic crops and pesticides. Washing your pups feet after a walk can be a good way to ensure they don't lick any potentially harmful chemicals from their skin.
Remember to book your pups in for their regular grooming appointments
Especially as the months get warmer its important to ensure you keep up with your pups regular grooming appointments. This will now be especially important for dogs such as Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Corgis or any breeds with a double coat (an undercoat that sheds).
